Closure of Lloyds Bank in Torrington

Here is a letter from Cathrine Simmons, town and district councillor to Great Torrington

Dear Clerk

We are building a campaign to protest about the closure of the last bank in Great Torrington including the ATM — the only 24-hour accessible one in the town. We feel that to lose our bank would severely affect the viability of the town and its surrounding parishes. This is why we are holding a protest outside the bank next Saturday 18th February at 10.30. We would be grateful if you could publicize this for us. We will be taking other actions and we will keep you informed of these.

Added to this there is a consultation to move the Post Office from the town centre to McColls which is opposite the filling station. There is little car parking here and it is a longish walk from the town centre car parks and the bus stops.

Both these drastic changes are due to take place in June.

There is a Nationwide Building Society but they do not cater for businesses or charities. We will send you some posters and other information soon.

Kind regards, Cathrine Simmons – town and district councillor to Great Torrington
