Public Transport – Bus

There is a bus service to and from Barnstaple every Tuesday (except public holidays), run by Taw and Torridge, route 322. The timetable is as follows.

For those residents who are within walking distance of the main road from Torrington to Barnstaple there is a bus service every day (Monday to Saturday), run by Stagecoach Devon, route 71 or 72. The timetable is as follows, valid from 20 September 2019 (subject to alteration over Christmas and New Year).

Buses on this route to/from Barnstaple call at Alverdiscott about 5 minutes after/before Huntshaw Cross; they call at Barnstaple railway station about 7 minutes, and at The Square about 2 minutes, before/after the Bus Station. All buses on this route call near Sainsbury’s; buses marked * also call into Sainsbury’s site about 12 minutes before/after the Bus Station. Note: Huntshaw Cross is a hail-and-ride, i.e. ‘request’, stop.

Public Transport – Rail

The nearest railway station at which all trains between Barnstaple and Exeter call is Umberleigh, just over four miles from Yarnscombe. Ring and Ride

Torridge Community Transport Association has gone into administration. The Torridge Ring and Ride service is temporarily being supplied by the Ilfracombe Community Transport Association — telephone 01271 866762. People with medical appointments can telephone Go North Devon on 01271 314332 to hear what travel options are available.


Mobile Library

Unfortunately the Torrington Mobile Library’s four-weekly visits to Yarnscombe village hall car park have been discontinued with effect from January 2020.

Remember in an emergency, always call 999.

The national Crimestoppers number remains as 0800 555111. There is no longer a front desk at Torrington Police Station, Pathfield, EX38 7BX but you can e-mail the station at torrington@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk.

Street Lighting and Other Road Problems

If you find any faulty street lights within the parish, please report them to Devon County Council either online or by telephoning 0870 556 1851. You can also report faulty street lights, broken paving slabs or fly tipping online at www.fixmystreet.com. Finally, to report fallen trees, flooding, potholes or broken streetlights you could try the lower cost telephone numbers 0845 155 1004 or 01884 232284.
